Q. How can I change the Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) quick-complete string?
April 27, 2008
A. A. If you open IE and type "ntfaq" into the address bar, then press Ctrl + Enter, the "http://www." and ".com" are automatically added to the text—the result being http://www.ntfaq.com.
You can change the registry to modify the pre-text and post-text additions. Follow these steps:
Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerToolbar registry key .
Open the Edit menu, and select New, Key.
Enter QuickComplete.
Under the new key, create a String value by entering New, String Value and name it QuickComplete, and press Enter.
Double-click the new value and set it to "www.%s.com" if you want .net to be the default extension, and click OK.
You don't have to restart IE for the change to take effect.
