Q. Can I use RemoteFX over WAN links?

A. The first version of RemoteFX in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is optimized for LAN networks and RemoteFX is actually disabled if you select any network profile other than LAN (10 Mbps or higher) in the Experience tab of Remote Desktop Connection. If you select the LAN profile and actually connect over a WAN link, it won't check and RemoteFX will be enabled, but your experience will depend on speed and latency. The WAN scenario isn't currently tested or supported by Microsoft for RemoteFX vGPU or RemoteFX USB redirection.
