A. If you perform a clean install of Windows 2000, your bus mouse will not be detected and installed. There is sadly no workaround for this.

If you however upgraded from Windows NT 4.0, you can edit c:boot.ini and remove the /fastdetect switch and save the file. When you restart the computer, your bus mouse will function.

  1. Start a command session (cmd.exe)

  2. Remove the read-only attribute from boot.ini
    attrib c:boot.ini -r -s -h

  3. Edit the file
    notepad c:boot.ini

  4. Remove the /fastdetect switch

  5. Save the file

  6. Reset the attributes
    attrib c:boot.ini +r +s +h

Please note that removing the /fastdetect switch will increase the boot time.
