The default offline cache setting for a share is Manual caching of documents.

To alter the offline cache setting of a share:

1. Use Windows Explorer to right-click on the shared folder and press Properties.

2. Select the Sharing tab.

3. Press the Caching button.

4. Depending on the operating system, you can toggle the Setting drop-down or Uncheck the Allow caching of files in this shared folder box. In Windows Server 2003, the only the files and programs that users specify will be available offline radial button is Manual caching of documents, the All files and programs that users open from the share will be automatically available offline radial button is Automatic caching of programs and documents, the All files and programs that users open from the share will be automatically available offline radial button with the Optimized for performance check box cleared is Automatic caching of documents, and Files or programs from the share will not be available offline radial button is the Caching disabled setting.

5. Press OK, Apply, and OK.

Alternately, you can use the /CACHE:Value switch of the Net Share command, where Value can be Manual, Documents, Programs, or None.
