When you restart Windows 2000 after uninstalling the Control IT program from Computer Associates International, Inc., you receive:

User Interface Failure
The logon user interface dll logonrem.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator.

This issue occurs because the GinaDLL Value Name is set to logonrem.dll.

To resolve this issue:

1. Restart Windows 2000.

2. Press F8 to open the Windows 2000 Advanced Options menu.

3. Use the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys to select Safe Mode and press Enter.

4. Start / Run / Regedit / OK.

5. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon.

6. Right-click the GinaDLL Value Name in the right-hand pane and press Delete.

7. If prompted, confirm the deletion.

8. Exit the registry editor.

9. Restart Windows 2000 normally.
