JSI Tip 6363. When you attempt to install the Recovery Console, you receive 'error reading information from netmap.inf'?

When you try to install the Recovery Console with the i386winnt32.exe /cmdcons command, you receive:

error reading information from netmap.inf.

If the DevicePath Value Name at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion is NOT a REG_EXPAND_SZ data type, you will experience this problem.

To resolve this problem:

1. Use Regedt32 on Windows 2000, or Regedit on Windows XP, to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion.

2. Double-click the DevicePath Value Name and copy the data to the clipboard.

3. Delete the DevicePath Value Name.

4. Add the DevicePath Value Name, as a REG_EXPAND_SZ data type, and paste the data value from the clipboard.

5. Press OK.

6. Exit the Registry Editor.

7. You may need to shutdown and restart for these values to take effect.
