This step-by-step article describes how to use Windows 2000 to download Windows updates and enhancements and Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality (WHQL) logo device drivers from the Windows Update Catalog.
You can search the Windows Update Catalog to find updates that you can download and install later on Windows-based computers across your home or corporate network. Microsoft recommends that only advanced users and administrators download updates from the Windows Update Catalog. If you are not an advanced user or an administrator, you can download and install updates directly from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.comback to the top
Add the Windows Update Catalog to Windows Update
Visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Click Personalize Windows Update.
Click to select the Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also check box.
Click Save Settings. A Windows Update Catalog link appears under See Also.

Download Windows Updates from the Windows Update Catalog
Visit the Windows Update Web site, and then click Windows Update Catalog under See Also.
Or, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Catalog Web site:http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalogClick Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
Click the appropriate operating system and language for the update that you want to download, and then click Advanced Search Options to refine your query (to limit the number of items that are returned).
NOTE: If you do not refine your query, all critical updates and service packs, recommended updates, and multiple-language features for the operating system and language appear.Click Search.
Locate the item that you want to download, and then click Add.
Click Go to download basket.
In the Type or browse to the download location of your choice box, type the full path for the folder in which you want to save the item. Or, click Browse to locate the folder.
Click Download Now, and then click Accept.

Download Driver Updates from the Windows Update Catalog
Visit the Windows Update Web site, and then click Windows Update Catalog under See Also.
Or, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Catalog Web site:http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalogClick Find driver updates for hardware devices.
Click the appropriate hardware category for the driver update that you want to download.
Click the manufacturer name, the operating system, the language, and any other items that you want to search for, and then click Search.
Locate the driver that you want, and then click Add.
Click Go to download basket.
In the Type or browse to the download location of your choice box, type the full path for the folder in which you want to save the item. Or, click Browse to locate the folder.
Click Download Now.

Currently, the Windows Update Catalog offers updates and drivers only for computers that are running Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP. Also, the Windows Update Catalog is available only from computers that are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
