If you start Windows 2000 Setup from a CD-ROM or Setup floppies, you may receive:

Disk I/O error: Status=00008001
Failed to read the boot partition to check for a disk signature.

This problem will occur if you have an IDE Zip drive installed on the primary IDE channel as the master.

To workaround this issue, physically disconnect the Zip drive during setup.

NOTE: You may reconnect the Zip drive after setup completes.
