After the upgrade of your Windows NT PDC, the Active Directory Installation Wizard fails with:

The operation failed because:

The Directory Service (DS) is missing critical information after installation and cannot proceed. If this is a replica, please rejoin the machine to the domain.

Directory object not found.

After all the objects are created and the security principals are transferred, Active Directory is searched for:

- The Domain object.

- The Administrator account SID.

- The Administrators group.

- The Users group.

At least one of the above objects are missing, causing the failure.

If you upgrade the installation with a slipstream of Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2, DCpromo will not fail.
