When you run a Windows 2000 Repair, Setup runs Chkdsk. You receive:

Please wait while Setup examines your disks. This may take several minutes depending on the size of the disks.

If Chkdsk finds problems with the drive, the following message is displayed for 15 seconds and the system automatically restarts:

Setup has performed maintenance on your hard disk. You must restart your computer to continue with Setup.

If you don't notice this message, you may believe that the Repair has been performed, but it hasn't. You must manually start the Repair again, and watch the screen. Setup will only run the Repair if Chkdsk finds no errors.
