Even if you uncheck Hide file extensions of know types, some file extensions remain hidden.
In addition to the Windows 2000 Explorer check box, the NeverShowExt registry Value Name also controls the extension display attribute.
Use Regedit to search HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for the NeverShowExt value name. For each extension found, if you wish to display it, rename NeverShowExt to OldNeverShowExt. On my systems, I located NeverShowExt at:
Access.Shortcut.Diagram.1Access.Shortcut.Form.1Access.Shortcut.Macro.1Access.Shortcut.Module.1Access.Shortcut.Query.1Access.Shortcut.Report.1Access.Shortcut.StoredProcedure.1Access.Shortcut.Table.1Access.Shortcut.View.1CLSID\{7BB70120-6C78-11CF-BFC7-444553540000}CLSID\{7BB70121-6C78-11CF-BFC7-444553540000}CLSID\{7BB70122-6C78-11CF-BFC7-444553540000}CLSID\{7BB70123-6C78-11CF-BFC7-444553540000}CLSID\{9E56BE60-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}CLSID\{9E56BE62-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}CLSID\{AA7C7080-860A-11CE-8424-08002B2CFF76}CLSID\{ECF03A32-103D-11d2-854D-006008059367}ConferenceLinkDocShortcutInternetShortcutlnkfilepiffileSHCmdFileShellScrapxnkfile
I renamed all of them except the shortcut extension (.lnk) at lnkfile.
