When you boot normally, your keyboard and mouse (PS/2 or Serial) works, but either may not work when you boot to Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking?

This condition is the result of some missing or damaged registry entries.

Copy / Paste the following text into a .reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimal\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]@="Keyboard"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimal\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]@="Mouse"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootNetwork\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]@="Keyboard"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootNetwork\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]@="Mouse"

Double click the .reg file and press Yes in response to:

Are you sure you want to add .reg to the registry?

NOTE: The above registry entries are the same on all Windows 2000 computers.
