When performing a parallel install of Windows 2000 Professional, you may want to conserve disk space, by minimizing the installed 'footprint'.

NOTE: This tip does NOT work on any Windows 2000 server products.

To minimize the installed 'footprint' of Windows 2000 Professional, perform a fully automated unattended install by modifing the I386Unattended.txt file with any/all of the following [Components]:

        accessopt=off        calc=off        cdplayer=off        certsrv_client=off        charmap=off        chat=off        deskpaper=off        dialer=off        fp=off        freecell=off        hypertrm=off        indexsrv_system=off        iis_pwmgr=off        media_clips=off        media_utopia=off        minesweeper=off        mousepoint=off        mplay=off        mswordpad=off        objectpkg=off        paint=off        pinball=off        rec=off        solitaire=off        templates=off        TSClients=off        vol=off

Save the Unattended.txt file as Winnt.sif on a floppy, which must be mounted when the installation starts. See the Unattend.doc file from the SupportToolsDeploy.cab file.

To minimize the WFP cache:

        [SystemFileProtection]        SFCQuota=0

Use the NTFS file system, as this is the most efficient use of space on your 1GB or larger parallel partition.

After the install, delete the 50MB %SystemRoot%Driver CacheI386Driver.cab file.
