In tip 0011, we addressed an IRPStackSize issue in Windows NT.

In Windows 2000, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesLanmanserverParametersIRPStackSize, a REG_DWPRD data type, has a minimum allowable value of 11, (hex 0x0b) and a maximum data value of 50 (hex 0x32). If this is altered, manually or programatically, to a value outside the allowable range, you receive a System event log entry:

Event: 2506 Source: Server The value named IRPStackSize in the server's Registry key LanmanServerParameters was invalid. The value was ignored, and processing continued.

To fix the problem:

1. Set the data value of IRPStackSize to number between 11 and 50, using the Decimal radix.

2. Shutdown and restart Windows 2000.
