If you don't have a supported NIC installed, either from the NT CDROM or a third party, or if there is a null entry in Oemnadx.inf, the subject behavior will occur.

If you have an adapter installed, use Regedt32 to modify the following values at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionNetworkCards

where n is the number of the installed adapter.

Title is a string (REG_SZ) value name that contains the product id, such as:

[n] 3Com Fast EtherLink Server NIC

Description is a string value name that contains additional descriptive information, like:

10/100Mb PCI
