When you Telnet to a HP-UX or Sun Solaris server using the MS Unix console client with the preferred terminal type set to VTNT, your session is not established.

Both Sun Solaris and HP-UX accept the VTNT terminal type but can not send information to the client during the negotiation.

To work around the problem, set your preferred terminal type to VT100 or ANSI.
