When you attempt to open a previously saved .eml file in Outlook Express, it opens in Read mode instead of Compose mode. This prevents you from using it as a template. You cannot use the saved .eml file multiple times.

This behavior may occur after installing the MS06-016: Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express

To resolve this behavior, Download the KB918766 package now.

After installing the KB918766 package:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Using REG.EXE, built into Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and later operating systems, or installed from the Windows 2000 Support Tools, type the following command and press Enter:

REG ADD "HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMainFeatureControlFEATURE_HONOR_XUNSENT_IN_FILE" /V msimn.exe /T REG_DWORD /F /D 1

3. Shutdown and restart your computer.
