JSI Tip 10417. 'The application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down' flashes before Windows restarts?

When you run an Office XP program for the first time, Windows Installer starts and you are prompted to restart your computer. When you press Yes, you briefly see a message similar to the following before your computer start to shutdown:

The application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down.

This behavior may occur if an administrator advertised Office XP by running Setup with the /j switch and you use an Office XP shortcut for the first time.

You can safely ignore this message. Your Office programs will function properly.
