  1. Choose Insert → Symbol and choose the Symbol tab.

    • Many typographic symbols, such as non-breaking hyphen and space, will be found on the Special Characters tab, instead.

    • If you have used the symbol recently, you will see it in the Recently used symbols list, where you can select it and skip to step 3.

  2. Select a Font from the drop down list:

    • Symbol: Scientific & mathematical symbols, Greek letters.

    • Wingdings: Fun stuff, icons.

    • (normal text): International characters & accents in the current font. This option is at the top of the drop-down list, so scroll up.

  3. Once you have located your symbol, you can insert it by doing one of the following:

    • Double-click the symbol.

    • Select the symbol and click Insert.

  4. You can continue to insert symbols by repeating steps 2 and 3.

  5. Click Close to close the Symbol dialog box.
