A. This is an amazing fault and questions the testing performed. Basically after youinstalled Service Pack 1 for Internet Explorer 5 you receive an error

"Help requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or greater. You caninstalled the latest version of IE from www.Microsoft.com"

The problem is that IE 5 SP1 sets the build in the registry of Windows 2000using an incorrect format for the build number and so Office thinks IE is a VERYold build.

To correct perform the following:

  1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)

  2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet Explorer

  3. Double click Build

  4. It will be "5.00.3103.1000". This is the wrong format, normal Internet Explorer 5 is 52920 so change the value of build to 52920.

  5. Click OK

  6. Office 2000 help is now OK

This is also fixed with Internet Explorer 5.5 which sets the value to "54134.0600".
