A. A.  A bug exists in the Internet Explorer 4.0 setup process that can cause problems when installing resulting in a number of possible errors:

Internet Explorer 4.0 Active Setup
Internet Explorer 4.0 was not successfully installed.

Setup was unable to download all the required components. The Internet is likely busy. Please try Setup again later and select Smart Recovery to continue downloading.

Knowledge Base article Q171714 (at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q171/7/14.ASP)explains fixes to this however to fix under Windows NT 4.0 perform thefollowing:

  1. Start Explorer

  2. Move to %systemroot%system32

  3. Rename the file wintrust.dll to wintrust.old

  4. Start the IE 4.0 installation (I did not have to reboot)
