A. If you try and run the setup from within Windows 95/98 or WindowsNT 4.0 you may get the following error:

Windows 2000 Setup could not detect the version ofWindows you are currently running. Setup cannot continue.

This is caused by the setup program not being able to detect the currentinstallations product ID. This may be caused by using disk duplication toinstall but to resolve perform the following:

  1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)

  2. Set the value at to your product ID
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/ProductID
    if using Windows NT or
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/ProductID
    if using Windows 9x

  3. Close the registry editor
