How do I switch Exchange 2000 to native mode? - 05 Feb 2001

A. Like Windows 2000, Exchange 2000 has a mixed mode and a native mode. The mixed mode allows interoperation with Exchange 5.5 servers and lets you include Exchange 5.5 servers in your Exchange organization. When you're sure that you no longer require a connection to Exchange 5.5 servers, you can switch to native mode, which has the following advantages:
Greater flexibility for defining routing groups and administrative groups
The ability to move mailboxes between servers in the same administrative group
SMTP as the default routing protocol
Switching modes is a one-way process that you can't undo, so ensure that you have no Exchange 5.5 servers and no plans to add any before you switch modes. The Win2K domain doesn't need to be in native mode to switch Exchange to native mode.
Start Exchange System Manager (ESM) (Start, Programs, Microsoft Exchange, System Manager).
Right-click the organization, and click Properties.
Select the General tab, and click Change Mode under Change Operations Mode.
Click Yes.
No reboot is required.
