A. Its possible to disable bus mastering on the 3C590 toalleviate any possible busmaster contention. To disable perform the following:

  1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)

  2. Move to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesEL59X1 (if you have multiple adapters you will also have EL59X2 etc)

  3. Select the Parameters key (if the key does not exist create it)

  4. From the Edit menu select New - String value

  5. Enter a name of Busmaster and press enter

  6. Double click the new value and set to 'NO' (don't type the quotes)

  7. Click OK

  8. Restart the computer

Upon restart there should now be a system event:

"Busmaster support has been turned off for slot XX."

A newer version of the driver can be found at http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/3C590.htm#ship
