A. You might not want to use the Winsock proxy client on a machine that you take to different locations. Instead of uninstalling the Winsock proxy client every time you take your machine with you, you can disable the program. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings, then Control Panel. Open the Winsock Proxy Client Control Panel applet.

  2. Clear the Enable WinSock Proxy Client checkbox.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Click Restart Computer Now.

After the computer restarts, it won’t use the Winsock proxy client. To re-enable the client, perform the steps listed above, but select the Enable WinSock Proxy Client checkbox.

In my experience, the reconfiguration works without the reboot, so you might run a test to see if you can skip the reboot stage.
