AT&T Will Sell HTC One M8 for Windows Starting Friday
A real flagship, but with compromises
November 3, 2014
Here's some more Windows Phone news from AT&T Wireless: The carrier will begin selling the HTC One M8 for Windows starting on Friday for $199.99 with a two-year commitment. That's in keeping with the device's flagship status, of course, but a heady price to pay for a Windows Phone handset these days.
I was the first to exclusively reveal that AT&T Wireless would sell the HTC One M8 starting in November on the most recent episode of the Windows Weekly podcast. Previously, this handset was only available through Verizon, and as I noted in my HTC One M8 for Windows Review, this handset is a true flagship, with high-end specs and a gorgeous form factor. But it has two major downsides. The camera is a serious Achilles Heel, and is lackluster compared to even mid-level handsets like the Lumia 735 or 830. Plus you don't get access to the superior Lumia app collection.
Anyway, AT&T Wireless announced this morning that it will start selling the HTC One M8 for Windows on Friday. The pricing breaks down as follows:
No-contract pricing is $669.99.
Two-year contract pricing is $199.99.
Next 18 pricing is $0 down and $27.92 per month, or $502.56 spread out over the life of the 18-month contract.
Next 12 pricing is $0 down and $33.60 per month, or $403.20 spread out over the life of the 12-month contract.
My advice is to skip this one. But here's a promotion video if you need to get excited about it for some reason.
