The Windows Server 2003 certification authority can send e-mail messages to users, administrators, and to certificate managers about operations on the certification authority.

When you configure the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) exit module on Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, the notifications are NOT sent.

The problem occurs because Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition does not support sending e-mail notifications on the certification authority.

NOTE Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition does NOT have this problem.

To workaround this behavior, use the following script from the Microsoft TechNet Script Center:
