Why Do Windows Move Between Monitors When Using DisplayPort?

Q. When I connect a DisplayPort additional monitor to my Windows machine after a screen hibernate, all of the applications on the DisplayPort display have moved to another display. Why is that happening?

A. DisplayPort is a plugable-type display enabling devices to easily be added and removed. This also has the effect that when an additional DisplayPort display goes into PowerSave mode, it is seen as disconnected from the machine. When this happens, any application windows that were open on the display are moved to other displays on the system. This can be very frustrating, and, unfortunately, there is no simple fix. However, there are two things I have found that can help (although neither is ideal):
