View Desktop Web Versions on Windows Phone

Q: How can I set my Windows Phone to show the desktop version of a website instead of the mobile version?

A: The web browser on Windows Phone sends an identification string when it connects to websites. This allows a customized site to be displayed that's optimized for a smaller screen.

Some of the new Windows Phones have very large screens such as the Nokia 1520 with a 6-inch screen that can display the full browser experience. You can change the configuration of the phone to request the desktop version of a website instead of the mobile version. Perform the following:

  1. Access Settings.

  2. Select the Applications section.

  3. Select Internet Explorer.

  4. For Website preference, change to desktop version.

The web browser will then load the desktop versions of websites.
