The NexDock Converts Your Lumia 950 & 950 XL into a Laptop

I am not a big fan of crowd funding and have probably only done it three times over the last few years but on this one, as it turns out, I was the first!

I consider this a safe bet because if the campaign is not successful then they will refund the money. If it does reach the $300,000 goal then I will receive the NexDock.

To me that is a Win-Win.

So what about this campaign convinced me to jump onboard right when I heard about it?

Flexibility.

The NexDock will allow me to put the Continuum feature on my Lumia 950 to use while I am on the road much more effectively than carrying a mobile keyboard, mouse and either a wireless display adapter or HDMI cable.

On top of that it can also be a second screen for other devices I have in my collection such as laptops and tablets.

This dock has a 14 inch monitor, built in battery, Bluetooth keyboard and can actually be used not only with your Windows 10 Continuum based devices but also Raspberry Pi and PCs on a Stick.

Here are the full technical specs:

  • Dimensions & weight:  351 mm x 233 mm x 20 mm, 1400 gr

  • Display: 14.1 inch 1366 x 768 Screen with 16:9 display ratio

  • Keyboard and Touchpad: Bluetooth class 4.0

  • Battery:  Li-ion battery, 3.8V / 10000mAh

  • HDMI port:  Mini HDMI

  • Connectivity: 2x USB port, 1 x TF card slot, 1 x 3.5mm headphone port

  • Power:  DC 3.5mm 5V/2.5 A

There are three levels of perks for the NexDock which is expected to retail for $149 after the IndieGoGo campaign is successful and they begin full production and ship the product to their backers.

  • Early Bird (250 available) is $79

  • Not Too Late (750 available) is $99

  • Still Can Save (no limit) is $119

The docks are expected to ship in June 2016 and cost for that is estimated at $25 per unit and buyers are on the hook for VAT and customs fees. Shipping is available for world wide delivery.

The NexDock is the first stage in this companies vision for the future of computing.

"In the future, we want to develop docks with variety of sizes and better-integrated mini PCs with a range of processors and operating systems.

By separating processor & operating system from the display, we hope to start a paradigm shift in consumer electronics, where computers can be adapted to match your exact needs, generating less electronic waste for the environment."

But, wait...there's probably more so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Google+.
