A. I recently added a USB Bluetooth device to my computer for testing. The installation added a Bluetooth icon to my desktop that I couldn’t remove using the usual methods. I tried deleting the icon directly and I tried to remove it using the Change desktop icons task in the Personalization control panel applet, but neither worked. You have to use the registry editor to remove the icon, so follow these steps.

  1. Start the registry editor by clicking Start, then, Run, and then entering regedit.

  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionexplorerDesktopNameSpace.

  3. Each sub-key here represents items on the desktop. Look at each item until you find one with a (Default) value of My Bluetooth Places.

  4. Delete the key that contains the My Bluetooth Places text. Delete only the key containing the My Bluetooth Places item—don’t delete the entire NameSpace key.

  5. Refresh your screen and the icon will be gone.
