Nokia Lumia 730/735 Preview

If you always wanted a thinner and lighter version of the Lumia 920, you're going to love the Lumia 730 (dual-SIM) and 735 (LTE) handsets, which improve dramatically on that classic design. But the big news with these devices is the front camera, which has been specially optimized for selfies. Yep. Microsoft is joining the selfie generation.

If you haven't already, be sure to check out IFA 2014: Microsoft Devices Announces New Lumias, Accessories, Firmware for an overview of all of Microsoft's devices announcements today.

Here's what's happening with the Lumia 730/735:

730 for dual-SIM, 735 for LTE. The Lumia 730 and 735 are the same handset, except that the 730 features a dual-SIM design and the 735 has a single LTE-capable SIM.

Not for the United States. As with the Lumia 830, you'll need to check out Expansys if you want to get one of these phones in the US: They are global phones, and not aimed at the US market.

Selfie camera. While the 730/735 rear camera is a mid-level 6.7 megapixel camera with ZEISS optics, the big news is up front: The front-facing camera is a Full HD 5 megapixel wide angle (2596 x 1948) unit that works with a new Lumia Selfie app. (Don't worry, most other Lumia users will be getting it too.)

Colors. The Lumia 730/735 comes in orange, green, white and black.

Interchangeable shell. You can pop off the entire shell—it's crazy when you see this—and replace it with one with a different color: bright green, bright orange, or dark grey. This shell includes wireless charging capabilities too.

OS. The Lumia 73x ships with Windows Phone 8.1.1 and the Lumia Denim firmware update.
