New Xbox One Console Welcome App Available to Xbox Insiders on Alpha Preview Ring

Tonight the Xbox One team pushed out a new build to members of the Alpha Preview Ring which get new builds about twice per week.

These builds are leading up to the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update for the entertainment and gaming console and this latest build is 15051.

That just happens to be the same build number that was released earlier today for Windows 10 Mobile devices enrolled in the Windows Insiders Fast Ring.

We have suspected the end was very near for the development of the Creators Update and now, with two out of the three main platforms landing on the same build, that certainly seems to be the case.

I guess we will see just how aligned the big three are (PC, Mobile and Xbox One) when we see the next Fast Ring build for PCs that should be out over the next couple of days.

In the mean time, there is a nice app addition to this latest Alpha Preview Ring build for the Xbox One that is simply called the Welcome App.

As you will see in the gallery, it walks a user through some key areas that are important when setting up a new console.

  • Redeeming a code

  • Registering the console

  • Customizing your avatar

  • Connecting with friends

  • Managing payment options

  • Setting up Kinect (if you have one attached)

Those steps make a lot of sense for a brand new Xbox One user and might just help a veteran learn a new trick or two on the console.

For Alpha Preview Ring members you just go to Home>Games and Apps>Apps and look for the Welcome App tile. Once you are done using it make sure you go into the Xbox Insider App and complete the Welcome App quest for your points!
