Microsoft Acquires Mobile Analytics and Push Notifications Company, Capptain

Microsoft today has announced that it has purchased a real-time user and push analytics company called Capptain, with the intent of integrating the service into Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft states that Capptain's solution will be utilized to analyze customer and employee behavior in real-time, and respond by pushing targeted messages, announcements, information or offers

Capptain has now updated its own web site to announce the acquisition: http://www.capptain.com/info/

The French company itself is only 6 years old, and based on original mission statements and product descriptions, it seems it has more of an advertising bent, than business usage. Capptain's product tracks details about mobile users such as applications used, how long they were used, how many times they were accessed, and where the users come from. Capptain's solution provides cross-platform support, which is important to Microsoft. The supported platforms include iOS, Android, HTML5, Web OS, Blackberry, and Windows Phone, but also integrates with other smart devices such as TVs. This seems to be an important step in Microsoft's Internet of Things (IoT) advance.

It'll be interesting to see the final integration.
