Ahead of the CES 2016 show, Lenovo's announced additions to the X1 tablet product line. Here's what you need to know:
The ThinkPad X1 Tablet offers clip-on modules to amplify different aspects of tablet performance. Want 15 hours of battery life? There's a module for that. Want to stroll into a meeting with only your tablet, then wow the crowd by projecting your presentation like your tablet is R2D2 at the beginning of Star Wars: A New Hope? There's a module for that. Actually, there are two modules for that -- the Presenter Module includes a pico projector and HDMI port while the 3D Imaging Module sports a rear-facing Intel RealSense camera for creating in 3D.
The ThinkPad X1 Tablet will be available in February, from $899. The Productivity Module will be available starting February from $149, while you'll have to wait until May for the Projector Module (from $279) and the 3D Imaging Module (from $149).
The ThinkPad X1 Yoga makes other tablets look like they've put on some holiday weight with a width of 0.66 inches and a weight of 2.8 pounds. (We had reviewed the Lenovo Yoga 900 back in November 2015.) But more importantly, the ThinkPad Yoga has a keyboard that retracts keys in tablet mode and a pen that is housed and charged inside the tablet, so you don't have to worry about it sticking out at weird angles while it's recharging. The ThinkPad X1 Yoga will be available starting January from $1449.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has made a number of customer-suggested improvements, including: more display options, increased memory and storage capacity, improved connectivity and a lighter weight of 2.6 pounds. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be available starting February from $1299.
