Lenovo Casts its Support for Miracast with Upcoming Device

Appropriately named, the Lenovo Cast, Lenovo has announced that it will produce and sell its own version of a wireless video streaming device. About the size of a hockey puck, the circular gadget improves on the WiDi standard by boosting signals through walls and up to 20 meters away using an antenna array that supports 802.11 a/b/g/n.

Like most wireless video offerings today, the Cast supports both DLNA and Miracast, ensuring that the most popular platforms will be supported. At launch, streaming will be support for Android 4.3 and better, Windows 8.1 and iOS.

The Cast will be less like the Chromecast and Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, that requires no additional cabling, but plugs directly into a free HDMI port and powered by an integrated USB port. Instead, the Cast will be more like the NETGEAR Push2TV, requiring cable connections, and follow the design of the Nokia HD-10.

Lenovo Cast is scheduled to release in August for around $50.
