California Cell Phone Users Get Bill of Rights

California is giving power back to the people. The state is the first in the country to adopt a so-called "Bill of Rights" for cell phone customers. The state's Public Utilities Commission approved a new set of rules that are intended to make it easier for customers to hold cell phone carriers responsible for poor service. The most important provision allows customers to cancel wireless service within 30 days of signing a contract. Other rights granted by the new rules include requiring all rates and terms to be posted online, requiring key contract terms to be readable (i.e,. not use fine print), and requiring carriers to include addresses and phone numbers for customers to easily file complaints with regulators. Let's hope other states follow California's lead in restoring consumer rights
