Symantec AntiVirus for SMTP Gateways detects and eliminates email-borne viruses before they invade enterprise networks. The application also blocks spam and other unwanted content according to common message characteristics such as subject line, attachment name, extension, and maximum message size. Administrators can use a secure Web browser to set security policies, schedule updates, receive security alerts, and generate administrative reports. Symantec AntiVirus for SMTP Gateways uses Symantec's platform-independent NAVEX scanning engines, which let administrators update security settings, policies, and virus definitions dynamically, without stopping scan services or incurring server downtime.
