How to Type the Cent Symbol (¢)

It doesn’t cost anything to type the cent symbol or sign (¢) in a Microsoft Word document, on a Mac, or on iOS or Android devices.

How to Insert the Cent Symbol in Microsoft Word

When typing in Microsoft Word on a PC, click on the document where you would like the cent symbol to go. Next, hold the Alt key and type 0162 on the numeric keypad. 

If your PC doesn’t have a numeric keypad, you can use an alternative keyboard shortcut for the cent symbol. Simply hold down CTRL and press forward slash (/) and the letter “c.”

Lastly, if you plan on using the cent symbol multiple times in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect options to automatically replace a word (such as “cent”) with the symbol. 

How to Insert the Cent Symbol on a Mac

The keyboard shortcut is the easiest way to type the cent symbol on a Mac. Hold down Option, followed by the number 4. 

You can also insert the cent symbol from your Mac’s Character Viewer.

On an iPhone, the cent symbol is found in the Emoji Library. Switch to the emoji keyboard by clicking on the wide-grinning smiley face. Next, type “cent” into the Search Emoji bar and click on the ¢. 

The cent symbol can be found in the numbers and symbols keyboard on Android devices. Once you’ve accessed the numbers and symbols keyboard, tap the ¢ to include this symbol in your document.
