Too Cool! Scalable Shared Databases

Here's another reason to subscribe to the RSS feeds for new Microsoft SQL Server Knowledge Base articles.   A recent Microsoft KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910378

) describes a extraordinary new feature called Scalable Shared Databases (SSD).  SSDs are a feature of SQL Server Enterprise edition to access the same database hosted on SAN from several server instances. That means that read-only workloads can be scaled up by adding additional servers accessing the same database! (Oracle RAC, SQL Server is right on your heels!)

Lubor Kollar, the SQL Server engine maestro, mentioned that a BOL refresh planned for December 2005 will contain detail information about this feature. In the meanwhile read the KB article for a great deal of information including  benefits, restrictions and describes how to update the SSD together.  The article also provides examples and guidelines for using this feature.
