A new Microsoft article, "FIX: Query Performance Slower When Client Locale Differs from Server Locale," explains a fix for a known SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services problem. When you query an Analysis Services server from a client that uses a different locale than that of the server, you might experience slower query performance than when you query the Analysis Services server from a client that uses the same locale as the server. The Microsoft article explains that SQL Server uses the locale of the computer on which the Analysis Services server is running to set the locale of the server. If the server receives a query from a client that has the same locale, the server can execute the query on the Analysis Services server when appropriate. However, if the client's locale doesn't match the server's locale, the data is transferred to the client for processing. Microsoft now has a supported fix available for systems experiencing this specific problem. Microsoft notes that the fix might receive additional testing later to further ensure product quality. If you aren't experiencing serious problems because of this behavior, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next SQL Server service pack that contains this fix.To resolve the performance problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix.
