JSI Tip 9241. When you connect a digital video (DV) camera to a USB 2.0 port on Windows XP, using the Windows Movie Maker DV camera controls to rewind or to fast forward causes Movie Maker may stop capturing video?

When you connect a digital video (DV) camera to a USB 2.0 port on Windows XP, and you use Windows Movie Maker to capture video, using the DV camera controls, in the Video Capture Wizard, to rewind or to fast forward, causes Movie Maker may stop capturing video.

The behavior will occur if your DV camera is a UVC (USB Video Class) device and you hold down the fast-forward button, or the rewind button, in the Digital video camera controls section of the Video Capture Wizard in Movie Maker.

To workaround this behavior:

01. After connecting the DV device to a USB 2.0 port, set the camera mode to play recorded video, labeled VTR, or VCR on a DV camera.

02. Start Windows Movie Maker.

03. On the File menu, press Capture Video.

NOTE: If only one video device is installed on your computer, the following page is NOT display, so proceed with step 05.

04. On the Video Capture Device page of the Video Capture Wizard, select the DV camera that is listed in the Available devices box.

05. Type a file name into the Enter a file name for your captured video box.

06. Specify a location in the Choose a place to save your captured video box and press Save.

07. Select the video setting that you want to use to capture video and audio from the Video Setting page.

08. On the Capture Method page, select Capture parts of the tape manually.

09. Use the controls on your DV camera to locate the video and the audio that you want to capture.

NOTE: DO NOT use the fast-forward button, or the rewind button, that appears in the Digital video camera controls section of the Video Capture Wizard.

10. To start to capture video, press Start Capture.

11. Press Stop Capture at an appropriate point.

12. Repeat steps 09 and 11 for each segment that you want to capture.

13. When finished, press Finish to close the Video Capture Wizard.
