Digital Equipment has introduced a new Alpha CPU, the 21164PC, that offerstwice the performance of a Pentium Pro at a lower cost. The Alpha CPU isthe only alternative to the Intel x86 line if you wish to run Windows NT.Digital is offering three versions of the chip, which run at 533 MHz, 466MHz, and 400 MHz respectively. The CPU was designed with Mitsubishi, andboth will sell versions of the chip, as will Samsung.

The fastest Pentium Pro is 200Mhz, though 233 and 266Mhz versions of theMMX-enabled Pentium Pro, called the Pentium II, are due in May
