You can find a lot of information about Wake on LAN on the Internet. Here are few helpful Web sites:
For details about how to use Wake on LAN with Windows 2000 (and to some extent with Windows Me), take a look at "Power Management for Network Devices" and "How to Enable WakeOnLAN Only for ‘Magic’ Packet Pattern".
For information about Wake on LAN hardware (including NICs) and software support and configuration, the Annoyances.org Web site offers the article "Getting Wake On Lan (sometimes called Remote Wake Up) to work". Although the article purports to cover all flavors of Windows, its instructions work better for Windows Me and Windows 9x than they do for Windows XP and Win2K.
You can find a copy of Microsoft’s and AMD’s "Network Device Class Power Management Reference Specification" on the Microsoft Windows Platform Development Web site.
The Ninstall Web site provides Wake on LAN freeware, but unfortunately it requires a license for commercial use. However, the site has useful Wake on LAN background information at http://www.ninstall.com/wake-on-lan/introduction.asp.
You can download and obtain information about UltraWOL from the Ultrajones Software Web site.
You can download the Microsoft Visual Basic (VB) 6.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) runtime files from the Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) Web site.
