My desktop icons are corrupt, what can I do?

A. To speed up desktop refresh and its creation, the desktop iconsare cached. Sometimes this file can become corrupted and will lead to the iconson the desktop being blank or incorrect.

To resolve this you can delete the icon cache file,%SystemRoot%ShellIconCache. Before doing this you must stop Explorer (rightclick on Task bar and stop all instances of Explorer.exe).

C:> attrib %systemroot%shelliconcache -h
C:> del %systemroot%shelliconcache

Restart the computer

This can also be accomplished using the Repair tab of the TweakUI utility.
