IT/Dev Connections 2016 Speaker Highlight: Thomas Maurer

Part of an ongoing series, we're highlighting the excellent speakers we have handpicked to present phenomenal and extremely valuable content at the IT/Dev Connections conference. Want more? Get the Insider’s Scoop About IT/Dev Connections 2016 on September 8!

This speaker highlight is Thomas Maurer.

Thomas' IT/Dev Connection sessions:

Recently, we asked Thomas to give us a little information about himself. Here's what he shared:

ITDC: Give us a brief introduction to you.

Thomas: My name is Thomas Maurer. I work for a consulting company called itnetX which is based in Switzerland. I am focused on Microsoft Cloud Technologies like System Center, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Microsoft Azure and a lot more. Since 2012 I am also a Microsoft MVP for Hyper-V and now Cloud and Datacenter Management.

ITDC: Describe the sessions you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.

Thomas: I will present 2 sessions and one pre-conference workshop and they are all focused on the latest Windows Server 2016 release. In the Workshop and one of the sessions I will give attendees a short overview about the latest features and changes to Windows Server, and how this will improve the day to day tasks. In my other session I will talk about the new Nano Server deployment option.

ITDC: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your sessions?

Thomas: Well they should get a great overview about the latest new features in different areas such as Storage, Networking, Comupte as well as in security. This means I will talk about features like Hyper-V, Shielded VMs, Storage Spaces Direct, Storage Replica, Nano Server, Containers and of course a lot more.

ITDC: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT/Dev Connections?

Thomas: This will be my first IT/Dev Connection visit, and I only have heard great things about it, so when they open call for content, I applied because I wanted to be part of this. It is amazing to have so many great people and community leaders on site. It is not only about the great sessions. it is also great for networking with experts.

ITDC: What is the one key technology you believe is changing the technology industry right now?

Thomas: Well one of the key technology which definitely will change things in the future will be Containers. They won’t change the things in the short term, but in the long run they will definitely have a huge impact.

ITDC: Assuming attendees want to know, what’s your favorite, non-technical hobby or pastime? What’s one thing that totally irks you.

Thomas: Well one of my favorite things to do is definitely traveling. This is perfect since I can combine it with my work and my speaker engagements. It is fun to travel all over the world and learn about different cultures and meet different people and make new friends.
