January 8, 2000
A. For Internet Explorer version prior to 4.0 follow the procedure below:
Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)
Move to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID\{FBF23B42-E3F0-101B-8488-00AA003E56F8}DefaultIcon
Double click Default on the right hand side and change to the icon you require (use browse)
Select OK
Close the registry editor
There is a program called MicroAngelo available from http://www.iconstructions.com which automates this procedure.
The solution above does not work for Internet Explorer 4.0 and above, the method is as follows:
Start the registry editor (regedit.exe)
Move to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}
From the Edit menu, select New - Key and enter the name of DefaultIcon and press Enter
Double click Default on the right hand side and change to the icon you require (use browse)
Select OK
Close the registry editor
There are some really nice IE icons at http://www.blably.com/iconstructions/ .
