Navigating a reference site when you need to look for information about Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Requests for Comments (RFC) or documentation about event IDs associated with errors can be time-consuming. You can save a URL shortcut in your Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) Favorites. However, a more convenient solution is to use a simple script that opens an input box and lets you paste a Microsoft Knowledge Base article number or an event ID number.

I use the scripts that Listing 1, page 15, and Listing 2, page 15, show to search for RFCs and event IDs. You might need to modify these scripts as Web sites move. This solution lets you go immediately to the information you want instead of clicking through a series of URLs.
