Web.com Chooses Colo5 for Colocation - Colo5, LLC will provide colocation and disaster recovery services to Web.com from its data center in Jacksonville, Florida, the companies said this week. "Colo5 has customized over 3,000 square feet for Web.com's IT infrastructure in the Jacksonville data center," said Doug Recker, chief executive officer for Colo5. "We have deployed cold aisle containment, engineered specifically for Web.com which will reduce cost in cooling. Going forward Colo5 has plans to introduce this technology into the new expansion markets. We have completed over $2 million in upgrades for the power and cooling systems in the Jacksonville data center for Web.com. These upgrades will allow us to extend more power and cooling throughout the facility for existing and new clients."

OnX Enterprise Announces $20 Million Data Center - OnX Enterprise Solutions, a provider of enterprise data center solutions, said it has invested $20 millionin the company's cloud and data center infrastructure. The new investment will help OnX expand its cloud offerings to clients throughout North America in the enterprise market who are seeking a high-availability solution with multiple facility failover capacity. The investment will be used to build out OnX's cloud infrastructure including greatly increasing data center capacity levels, and furthering OnX's partnerships with leading cloud providers including Cisco, EMC, and VMware. The data center expansion comes on the heels of OnX's announcement of its Federated Cloud Centers of Excellence (FCCE) where clients can test-drive enterprise cloud solutions at fully equipped data centers with live data using real-world applications and scenarios. FCCE services are available for client demos at the OnX Lab Centers located in Chicago, Irvine, New York and Toronto.

Open Data Center Alliance Creates Data Services Workgroup - The Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA) this week announced the formation of a Data Services Workgroup chartered to document the most urgent requirements facing IT in their management of data towards competitive opportunity. The Data Services Workgroup will focus initially on big data by documenting usage model requirements towards increasing enterprise’s ability to securely collect, manage and analyze this data. Accelerating enterprise IT’s ability to use cutting edge database solutions for near real time insight into business decisions, and driving interoperability among big data frameworks and traditional business intelligence (BI) solutions will be the primary objectives of the workgroup. As part of the new charter, the Alliance will engage with big data industry leaders Cloudera, Hortonworks and MapR Technologies, which have announced membership in the organization today, as well as leading data management solutions provider members, including Teradata and SAS, in matching industry delivery of open solutions with prioritized IT requirements.

Telehouse Embraces 100% Eenewable Energy - Telehouse said this week that it's London Docklands data centre site, which houses the IT infrastructure of almost 500 major international organisations, now purchases 100 per cent renewable energy from UK provider SmartestEnergy. SmartestEnergy is the UK's leading purchaser and supplier of electricity from independent generators. The 100 per cent renewable energy purchased by Telehouse is generated by projects throughout the UK using a variety of sources including wind, solar, hydropower and anaerobic digestion. For Telehouse, the move to renewable energy further strengthens its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
