Vision Solutions announced the release of Double-Take Share 5.2, the latest version of the company's cross-platform data-sharing solution. Double-Take Share improves organizational decision-making and productivity by making it easy to replicate mission-critical data across multiple databases, incompatible applications and differing hardware, and OS platforms. Version 5.2 adds full support for the latest Windows and SQL Server technologies , increases performance, and adds support for new data types and OS and database versions.
“Organizations can have data spread across multiple databases for a variety of reasons,” said Alan Arnold, chief technology officer at Vision Solutions. “Some are the result of mergers or acquisitions, where two disparate databases need to be combined. Others happen as a result of adding new front-end technology that is different than the core database. Whatever the reason, moving data between databases can be time-consuming and costly. Double-Take Share 5.2 overcomes these obstacles by automating the data-sharing process across a variety of disparate technologies.”
Double-Take Share 5.2 uses a simple, point-and-click graphical UI to eliminate the need for scripting or programming to move data between databases, which improves database administrator productivity. The ability to replicate database information in real time and make it available for queries, reports, business intelligence, and data warehousing is becoming increasingly important to organizations’ success, and also enables them to move to new platforms or otherwise revamp their businesses. New capabilities introduced with Double-Take Share 5.2 include:
Support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 as well as 64-bit Java in Windows environments
Across-the-board performance enhancement, with unique optimizations for Oracle and Teradata databases
Replication of large objects and enhanced international character support for IBM i
Upgraded support for RedHat Linux and SUSE Linux operating systems and Teradata database versions
Additional remote hosting architectures for SQL Server and Oracle environments allow Double-Take Share 5.2 to replicate data in situations where installing third-party software on the database server isn't allowed for technical or compliance reasons. This capability solves a difficult, ongoing issue in heavily regulated industries such as banking and healthcare. The remote hosting architecture can be used in conjunction with on - premise and cloud - based environments as well as Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) offerings such as Windows Azure.
As with prior versions, Double-Take Share 5.2 provides real-time replication of data between databases, even if they’re on different hardware, OSs, or database platforms. As a result, decision-makers are always working with the freshest data regardless of its point of origin. It also makes it easy for users to offload selected portions of the data so that it can be used for development, testing, reporting, and other purposes without impacting or endangering the production system.
“With its new capabilities, Double-Take Share 5.2 is uniquely positioned to help our customers ensure that data is available where, when, and how they need it—no matter how an enterprise database is configured, or what the internal requirements are,” said Doug Piper, vice president of product strategy at Vision Solutions. “And, as organizations move to modernize their infrastructure and adopt cloud platforms, the ability to migrate their data quickly and easily between databases and OSs becomes increasingly important.” For more information about Double-Take Share 5.2, see the Vision Solutions website.
